We’ve Arrived!
Today was a long day…well, last night and today was a long day. Gerard put it in perspective. In Irish time, we left home at around 5 am and arrived at our place in Northern Ireland at 6 pm. In that timeframe, we crossed the Atlantic, went through immigration, picked up our cars (which took the longest), drove for a while, stopped for a bite, then drove again, driving from the Republic of Ireland into Northern Ireland (part of the UK) as we went. There is no border crossing at all. If there wasn’t a sign, you wouldn’t know. Oh…except for the fact that suddenly the speed limit and mileage is in miles and mph instead of kilometres.
This is why Ireland is called the Emerald Isle
It was actually a pretty nice day when we got here. It had obviously rained but it didn’t rain on us much today at all. And the sun was shining. A welcome to Ireland!
John and Deb drove the 2 cars. When we got to our place in Ballycastle, UK, Darlene, Judy and Sue went off to a grocery store in town to stock up on some needed supplies. John couldn’t wait to fly his drone, so off he went, and got this shot of where we’re staying.
We’re in the big white house and our cars are the 2 smaller ones parked on the right.
All in all, driving here was fine. We took the motorway most of the way up, even brushing by Belfast. Only the last 20 km or so were on a 2-lane roadway with no shoulders and perhaps even walls right beside the road. I really must figure out where those left wheels are…consistently. Yikes.
We had a bite to eat with stuff picked up at the store. We were too tired to be heading out anywhere tonight.

From Heather. What a day! Happy to hear you have arrived and have settled in to your lovely ‘white house’. The drone is super cool - can’t wait to see what else is in store on this trip.
