North Northern Ireland
Today consisted of a visit to the Giant’s Causeway, the City of Londonderry, and the Town of Portrush.
The Giant’s Causeway is a World Heritage Site established in 1986. It really is quite fascinating and occurs just in this spot on the northern coast. Here are a couple of pictures of what it looks like up close. You can check it out on Wikipedia, but essentially it is a geological formation. And the Irish have a legend that goes with it that involves Finn McCool.
By the time we left there it was after noon, so we decided to go to Londonderry for lunch. It was about an hour away, but hey, who cares? We finally managed to find a place to park the cars, and found a nice little pub.
Here we are out front after we were satisfied.
Londonderry is a an old walled city that sits on the River Foyle. Here’s a bridge that is part of the old wall.
That guy underneath was playing a Handpan…a fairly new instrument from Switzerland. Sounded beautiful, like a harp if I had to compare it to something.
This is the Guildhall and the square in front, kind of like our City Hall.
John got out his drone and got a great photo of this curved pedestrian bridge over the river, called the Peace Bridge.
And this shot looks back at the Guildhall and a little park next to it. If you look really close, Sue, Darlene & Bryan are sitting in that Peace Park.
When we left Londonderry, our car with the Hunters and Kraemers went back to our place in Ballycastle while the car with the Hollingers went off to Portrush. John wanted to do some more drone-flying. So he got this great shot of Portrush on the coast.
We got a shot of this on the TV after we saw from our phone that the Queen was not well.
Whoa - here we are in the UK as they go through this. Our plan is to be in Belfast tomorrow (Sept 10) and we understand King Charles will be there the day after. We watched some of this on TV and we ordered a pizza for dinner as we didn’t feel like going out any more.
