A Beautiful Coast

We spent the day today along the north coast of Ulster.  First it was the rope bridge, called Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge.  It was about a kilometre walk out to the bridge where Judy, Darlene and I crossed to the island.  The others chose not to.  It wasn’t so bad - only about 50 feet long.

Views from the island were gorgeous, looking back at the mainland.

These guys were everywhere, along with sheep, of course.

We moved on from there to Dunluce Castle.  It’s an old ruin discovered in the 1920s and excavation began then.  They believe it was built around the 15th century by feuding clans.  It was also featured as one of the castles in Game of Thrones.

This is John’s drone shot of it.

And the entrance to the castle.

And a couple of interior shots.

When we were done here, our car headed back to our temporary home while the other looked for a spot for John to fly his drone.  He couldn’t do that on National Trust property, of which this castle was one.  The castle shot he got was from another location along the shore.

Today was to be a bit of a relaxing day, which is why we didn’t roam far.  But later on, John, Judy and I went off to what was called Fairhead Cliff for a bit of a hike and scenery.  And of course, John wanted to fly his drone some more.

This was a shot from the drone.  If you look closely, you can see us on the top of the cliff.  From there, we could see the town of Ballycastle in the distance, islands, and the very calm North Atlantic Ocean - I’m sure it’s not always that calm.

Pretty impressive spot that was private land.  The owners charge £3 to park the car and we could have been there for hours if we wanted to, I suppose.

To wrap up the day, we all went out to dinner at O’Connor’s Pub in the town of Ballycastle.
